Hardt Forestry integrates Geographic Information Systems mapping and modeling software with site visits to identify the best locations for trails and based on topography, hydrology and soils. In most cases, we can keep costs down by utilizing on-site materials such as timber for bridges and stone for the road base. The equipment used is always the least invasive as possible. I use a portable sawmill and winch to clear trails and construct bridges. I own and operate the heavy equipment necessary for forest road construction and maintanance, which in same cases eliminats the need to hire excavation contractors.
Forest Roads: Properly situated and constructed forest roads enable heightened management while mitigating enviromental impacts such as erosion and habitat fragmentation. As a Technical Service Provider (TSP) for the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), I can provide you with technical expertise around forest road reclimation and construction. NRCS can be a source of funding for landowners looking to prevent and control soil erosion.
Forest Trails: Forest trails are often the critical link between landowners and their land. Trails allow landowners to monitor and experience the splendor of their woodlots and wildlands without the associated discomforts of wet feet, tripping over windthrows, and disorientation. Often times the difference between a forest with trails and a forest without trails is a forest that is appreciated and understood and a forest that is ignored and overlooked.
Stream Crossing
I constructed this 16' bridge from northern hemlock that was harvested on-site with the aid of a portable chainsaw mill and portable chainsaw winch.
I turned this eroding forest road into...
...this ditched and crowned forest road.
